New Tutor Training Online

Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry is now offering online tutor training. LVL will continue to offer full face-to-face training several times a year and in several locations. But we recognize that not everyone can make the scheduled trainings and this option will allow more tutors to be trained to meet the growing demand.

To get started, please contact the nearest Learning Center and schedule an appointment with a program manager.

  • In Bluffton, call 815-6616 and talk to Deborah Wessel
  • On Hilton Head Island, call 681-6655 and talk to Sharon Black
  • In Beaufort, call 525-6658 and talk to Cindi Riley.

These staff members can provide you with orientation materials and a copy of the textbook, Tutor or I Speak English, depending on your choice of what kind of students you want to work with: Basic Literacy (reading and writing) or English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). There is a $40 tutor registration fee, but scholarships are available.

Once you have been oriented, you may start your online training. Here is the link to the ProLiteracy Education Network: http://proliteracyednet.org/articles.asp?mcid=2&cid=24.
