"I
stopped school in the 6th grade and stopped even
trying to read and learn new things. Since starting
with LVL I am paying all my bills myself with
checks. I can read birthday cards, some newspapers
and the Bible."

"I
was born and raised in Beaufort County. I used to rely
on my husband to read things to me. Since I've been
coming to LVL my tutor has helped me to learn how to
read my work bulletin board, newspapers, and my Bible.
Reading has helped me with my job at a long-term care
facility. I'm planning to take the Certified Nurses
Assistant Exam in January and eventually get my GED.
My family is proud of what I have done, especially my
husband. Being able to read has changed my life."

"English
is very important and hard to learn, but in LVL it was
more easy. I lose the scared to speak. I can understand
more when the people speak English with me, and I learned
new things. They help me with pronunciation, too."

"LVL
helps me a lot for two main reasons. First, I can socialize
with different kind of people of different languages
and cultures and this help me grow up as a person. Also,
when I arrived to the USA, I didn't know anybody and
I now have a lot of friends, teachers, classmates, administrative
people, and this is great. Second, I can see how I'm
improving my English. I can see how completely necessary
it is to have good English to get a better job and a
better life in this country."

"When
you can't read it's just like being a blind man. You
have to trust people with everything. I'm ready (to
come for instruction) rain or shine. What you put into
the program is what you get out of it."
