Why LED Lighting Is Essential For Seniors

Did you know that something as simple as the type of light bulb you install could play a significant role in reducing your household accidents?

What if, by replacing your old incandescent bulbs and installing some LED inbouw spots you might prevent a nasty fall in the home?

As seniors, it is sadly inevitable that as we grow older, we become more prone and more vulnerable to slips, trips and falls.

And as most of these accidents will occur in the home, this is the first area that should be addressed for accident prevention.

WHAT IS AMBIENT LIGHT AND WHY DO I NEED IT?

An ambient light is one that comes in from all angles to illuminate every section of a room, clearly and without glare.

This might be something like inbouw led spotjes or built-in spots LED, even led specifically designed for bedroom, such as led verlichting badkamer spotjes. These may come in many shapes and sizes and can be installed in every room in the house.

For the kitchen, you may opt for inbouw led spots keuken which are built-in LED spots for the kitchen. Similarly, in the bathroom there are a range of specialist badkamer spotjes available to keep the lighting ambient and easy on the eye.

Easy on the eye is something that needs considering for the aging eye, as rooms which feature a glaring or very strong light, might be overwhelming and very uncomfortable for them.

The strong lighting, which may not have bothered you in your youth – maybe like those office strip lights or other types of bright lighting – will start to feel unpleasant and make vision difficult in the over sixties.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND AGING EYES

Although it makes for grim reading, it is better to understand how your eyes change as you grow older, in order to make proper allowances for them.

The sooner you can do this, the sooner you can get the best of your vision, whatever age you are.

The unfortunate facts are that for most people, their eyes will start to deteriorate from the age of forty.

To begin with, we will in general find it more difficult to focus upon objects. It takes longer than it used to do in our youth and it is not as clear as it was.

One reason for this is that our ciliary muscles are simply not as supple as they used to be and have grown rigid over time. This makes the physical act of focusing harder than it was.

As we age, our eye lenses start to turn yellow and they then absorb more blue wavelength light. This unfortunately makes colours harder to distinguish.

One of the most common difficulties for senior citizens is being able to tell between shades of blue and green.

Older people’s corneas grow more opaque, which means that they don’t allow as much light in. The light becomes scattered and therefore immediate recognition of even familiar objects grows slower to achieve.

In addition to all this, our pupils are also shrinking in size and therefore, less light will reach them.

This is the main reason why you will simply need more light when you reach age eighty, than you did back in your twenties.

We know that this all makes for fairly depressing reading, but the good thing is that whilst you cannot prevent time from passing, you can make the best of things.

LEDS SAVE MONEY

We cannot talk about the benefits of LEDs for seniors without mentioning one of the major advantages of them.

They will save you money. Literally, a packet.

Because they utilise a tiny fraction of the energy needed to power an incandescent or halogen bulb, you will start to see the saving as soon as you install them.

It really doesn’t matter if you pick LED inbouw spots or some other type of built-in led spots from LED Inbouwspots LEDs.

INSTALLING LEDS IN YOUR HOME IS A NO BRAINER FOR YOUR HOME, YOUR PURSE AND YOUR PERSONAL SAFETY.
